What psychology treatment approaches do you use?

A combination of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Psychodynamic approaches and Mindfulness Based psychology. Sherisse has trained in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy.

Do I need a referral?

To claim from Medicare you will need a GP/Psychiatrist referral and mental healthcare plan. Please bring the referral and mental healthcare plan  to your initial appointment and if you need a recommendation of a GP who has an interest in mental health, please reach out.

How many sessions will I need?

On average, between 6-10 sessions with a psychologist is a good estimate. The number of sessions required depends on type, severity and complexity of symptoms or issues.

Can I get a Medicare rebate?

With a valid mental healthcare plan through medicare you may be entitled to a rebate for every therapy session with a psychologist for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. For eating disorders you may be entitled to 40 sessions per year. Speak to us to find out more.

What about privacy and confidentiality?

The confidentiality of the information you provide is not only a critical aspect of therapy, but is also protected by a Professional Code of Ethics established by the Australian Psychological Society. Mindfulthinking therapists are committed to providing a very high standard of confidentiality and protecting your personal information at all times. In most cases, disclosure of information is only made with your authorisation. Confidentiality sometimes has to be broken if we are required to do so by law.
